What is Aqualyx®?
Aqualyx® is an injectable compound of a substance called deoxycholic acid. This compound attaches itself to the fat cells and as a result dissolves them. The dead fat cells are flushed out via the lymphatic system.
What happens during the treatment?
The area to be treated is marked out into sections where a series of injections will be administered to target the fat cells.
How many treatments are required?
For the chin, up to 3 treatments. For the body, up to 8 treatments. Treatments are usually 4 to 6 weeks apart.
What is the aftercare?
- There may be redness, bruising and swelling that could last up to a week
- Paracetamol can be taken to ease any discomfort however avoid anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen as this can increase the chance of bruising and swelling
- No exercise for a week
- Drink plenty of fluids after treatment – aim for at least 2 litres of water a day
- Maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet for optimal results
- Avoid sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and hot tubs for one week post-treatment
